Is that close to Port Charlotte area? My ex and her third husband live there. A daughter in Estero, and a daughter in Ft Lauderdale.

My dad's cousin lives in Boynton Beach, Florida on the Florida East Coast. Also a family friend of mine lives in Naples on the Gulf Coast.

Naples is 35 miles south (worse storm impact) Estero about 5 miles south, Port Charlotte 25 miles
north and Fort Lauterdale 120 east.

Building codes in effect at time of construction have the most impact on damage.

My house was finished in 2005 and local codes required that each roof joist and rafter be
connected by steel strap to the equalivent of a footer at roof level and then by steel cable
to the actual footer. Many other code features exist to withstand 140 MPH winds. Steel
shutters were also required for all windows but one. For evacuation one window must
be a special glass construction that will withstand impact by a 2X4 traveling 135 MPH and
be removeable from the inside of the house.

House be safe.
