Plastic production

Unread post by minernut333 »

Plastic is starting to grow in demand as I see so many spurs lead to plastic industries. For example ethylene is used to produce polyethylene. Either from a petroleum refinery or Sabic Innovative Plastics in Evansville, Indiana; produce the gas that is polymerized to produce the plastic. My question is what facilities in the United States take ethylene, propylene, styrene, vinyl chloride, and etc and polymerize the gases into polyethylene, polypropylene, polystyrene, polyvinyl chloride(PVC)? Raw Chemical Gas -> Polymerization Facility -> Plastic Industry.

I have a hunch DOW is somehow involved in the process, but I think where ever the process takes place, it's west of Port Huron. Lots of tank cars with those chemicals written on them come across the border here, likely from the refinery across the river...
