Q326 to the river pilot, over... (calling Wyoming East Tower)
Come in 326...
Which dock would you like us to pull up and moor to?

Wyoming yard is quickly becoming a lake in this rain...

"PTI to East Tower"
"Tower over"
"uhh...we need to get to the middle shanty. What should we do for a route"
"Well, you can't come in Judd, it is flooded...uh...you can go around Godfrey...oh wait, that is flooded too...can you come in the West End"
"No, that is underwater too"
"Okay, come up to the office here, we're still dry over here"
"Alighty, coming to the tower. PTI out"
"Tower out"

One of the best ones I've hear in a while. This is brought to you by Ann Arbor Railroad, this engineer has always been pretty funny on te radio.

[AA 2368robot like voice] 2368 calling Hallet tower, come in over... This is 2368 calling to clear track warrant over... Tues down here at Pittsfield over

[AA 2368 Regular voice] cleared at 23:00... You have a muddy nice night... Thank you for flying Ann Arbor railroad

"Thank you for flying Ann Arbor Railroad" is one of my favorite lines I've ever heard over the radio 8)
"Ann Arbor 2373 Calling... Milkshake. Over"

Just discovered this thread... A while back I heard CN L502 rolling past the Flint sub detectors at 219.5 and 232.0. Both times the conductor thanked the detector. "... Detector OUT." "Thank you detector. Have a BEAUTIFUL day." See viewtopic.php?f=3&t=27394

I also enjoy the Flint sub dispatchers. "Okay on the 'Mother may I'". "Duck in to Snow Yard, out of sight, out of mind."

Lastly, overheard a train doing an Ensel set off with an engine they weren't too happy with. "Hopefully I can get it moving again. What a piece of junk." "Well, at least I've got you lined downhill for the next move."

Track Inspector, after being warned by flag man of overhead worker power washing, that the truck may get a little water on it.

TI: "This truck could probably use a good baptism."
FM: "A lot of the equipment could use a good baptism."

One of our Pere Marquette engineers is always out to say something memorable, as was the case last night while securing the train in the clear at Ann St:

"Rear end, parking brake applied on Amtrak engine one-thirteen, brakes released, here on the speedometer, visual cue, and I've got no sen-sation of movement! Okay to secure the train, over"

And on the 15th, controlling #371, he had this conversation with the Yardmaster:

"Three-seventy one to Wyoming Yardmaster, over"
"Okay to bring it down the main or service, whichever way it's lined"
"Okay for which way at the which way switch, 370 out"
"Yardmaster out"

This morning with the Veterans unit the assistant conductor just kept saying P370 even though the rest of the crew was saying P371. Must not have been awake
According to all known laws of aviation, there is no way a bee should be able to fly. Its wings are too small to get its fat little body off the ground. The bee, of course, flies anyway because bees don't care what humans think is impossible.

Engineer to welded rail crew riding on unloader cars as they approached St. Joseph.

"The scenery is about to get better." (Women on boats in bikinis in the river, plus views of Lake Michigan as they go uphill after the depot.)

Train crew "Good, all we've been seeing is corn, blueberries, raspberries, ...."

Heard this bit last night while chasing Z627 in Muskegon, I believe it is the crewmember who follows in his truck speaking with the conductor on 627:

Brakeman: "Turning onto Hackley"
Conductor: "Oh yeah?"
Brakeman: "Fightin' all the effing traffic"
Conductor: "We're not that long tonight"
Brakeman: "It is bikeweek"
Conductor: "Ride the train next time..."

I wish I had had my scanner on me more (I left it in the car several times), because apparently they were having fun with us chasing them...one bit I heard was: "Smile everyone, we're on camera!"

I took pics of the Welded Rail Train in St. Joseph, near Stevensville, near Lakeside, paced them from Lakeside to Union Pier, and got pics of them by the Union Pier post office. When I got back in my car the last time, I caught the end of their conversation..they were talking about "charging him" and being put on facebook...referring to me taking their pictures.
I should charge THEM...

Some recent goodies:

2nd shift IP dispatcher to a 13500' Q016: "Good luck and godspeed. CSX IP dispatcher out!"

2nd shift ID dispatcher heard at Sidney: "There is a ballast train at Union City ready to come and dump at Muncie."

Probably a regular issue on the RR but still was a funny conversation to hear on the radio.. And the "Uhhhh's" and "Ummmmm's" by both parties were funny too

Amtrak Forman contacting ballast train 932

AMTK OSS: "Amtrak 932... where are you headed?"
932: "Uhh Ummmmm that would be Jackson I guess"
OSS: "So are you going to park the train in Jackson?"
932: "Ummm there's another crew that is going to be taking the train east"
OSS: "Roger that thanks for the info"
"Ann Arbor 2373 Calling... Milkshake. Over"
