Some favorites from the late 90's and early 2000's on the CSX Willard sub when I still lived in Ohio were:

At random times you would hear the opening riff from Ozzy's "Crazy Train" being that this was the 90's it must have taken some effort with a micro cassette player or something as this was long before cell phones and MP3 players. And I was never sure where it was coming from it may have been NS on the Fostoria sub as well as they would switch over to CSX channels when going through F tower.

Also hold overs from long ago in the B&O days would call out signals by nicknames such as "Pig Pen" for the signal near a hog farm between Bascom and Fostoria. "Camelback" was the signals and later crossovers in Tiffin this was in reference to the original road overpass that was replaced in the 70's.

"Godsend" was west of Fostoria still on the maps as that name, reportedly in the old steam days there were water towers here and if you were coming from the west you were almost out of water so the towers became a "god send" to save you from running out.

And of coarse Walbridge was "Wally World" and Willard is "Willy-Yard"

CSX also had a PBX phone system that operated over the radio which for some reason you did not need a special radio or two scanners to hear both sides of the conversation as was done with most systems. I would hear train crews arguing with their wives and kids, and so would everyone else once the conversation was over some smart a$$ would chime in and say something like "Love you too darling" to which the usual reply was "go f*** yourself" or "thanks sweaty"
What smells like lube oil and diesel.... Oh wait it's just my "Locomotive Breath"

Here's one. "Clear the signal (can't remember), Q234."
Then the dispatcher: "Thirty-four?!"
The train: "235"
Dispatcher: "THIRTY-FIVE?!?"
So I don't know what the actual number was, and it doesn't sound like the crew did either :D

Today in Newaygo the Z151 crew did a lot of this. They do their double-checks, and I guess you have to hear them...different version each time:

"Back 6 to the tie"
"Back 6 to the tie, Douuuuuuuuuuuble Check"
"Good double check, 3391"

For the humor department:

"2003 to Yard Coordinator"
"You've reached the yard 'inator, what do you want 2003?"

Probably the best one:

"2003 to 2018"
"Go ahead 2003"
"Have you got that 1606 for me?"
"We're supposed to give it to you? All I was told was pick it up from the shops"
"Yes you're supposed to give it to me! Get the dang thing started will you? We'll be there in 15 minutes"
"Well nobody told me I was supposed to give you the engine."
"Yah, well that's cause you're on a need to know basis; just get it started!"
(Pause for a few minutes)
"2018 to 2003"
"Go ahead 2018, you got that 1606 started yet?"
"I can't start it; there's a note taped to the control stand saying it doesn't have any anti-freeze"
"What the h*** does anti-freeze have to do with starting a locomotive! Get it started already!"
"You needn't shout at me, (name redacted)"
(long pause from 2003)
"Just get the D*** thing started and I'll stop"
"Fine, 2018 out"
Apparently I work on GEs now...

"Slow speeds coming to a line near you"

From 352's conductor. Restricting speeds on YHS Michigan line because of bad signals again.

Heard today was a conversation between work crews on the Chicago line working near chesterton and Chicago West.

"91R to Chicago West over."
"Go ahead."
"Yeah he doesn't have his phone on him."
"Well he's in trouble then."
This is my life. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

If this is a problem get used to it.

From my recent Canada trip

Via service manager: so I'm assuming that we are stopped to make a meet with your friendly neighborhood CN train?

Via engineer: what are ya doing trying to make this take longer? That's not your normal speed (detector said 28 mph)
CN intermodal engineer: yeah well they didn't want me speeding on my last run
Via engineer: well congratulations
CN engineer: its not as glorious as you'd think, we've been up since 3:30.
Via engineer: all the more reason to retire eh?
"Other chatter"
Via assistant engineer: well they must have liked ya, they only fired you like 6 times.
CN engineer chuckles:
Via engineer: well anyway, its been a pleasure and I'm going to miss getting into the hole for ya.
CN engineer: and I'm going to miss seeing you guys just sitting there.

Via engineer: It's our lucky day we're going into the siding again at longlac
