Not in the Niles area, no, but is in what JT refers to as the West Michigan area.

Yes, south dead end of Union Street SE, south of 32nd Street SE looking west across the Hastings Running Track, formerly the old New York Central Jackson branch, to Stephen Pipe and Steel on Roger B Chaffee Memorial Blvd. All in Grand Rapids, Kent County. Final run of the remaining passenger train which was the Beeliner RDC Train3 388/389 that ran between Grand Rapids and jackson on the Jackson Branch, was made on April 25, 1959.

Just to the left of your photo Zack, appears to be a circular picnic bench right next to the tracks. It is so close it is partially in the ballast.
That must be a nice spot to eat lunch 8)

Sure would be, minus that trains only go by here once or twice a week, just to that L&W Supply place that GDLK serves. Definitely is close to the tracks.

Between Hurley, WI and Ironwood, MI (in the da UP) looking south along Maple Street on the Hurley. WI side of the Montreal River first underneath the old WC and the old C&NW railroads bridges. Final run of the remaining passenger trains, the Flambeau 400 train nos. 153/216 between Chicago and Ashland, WI, were made on January 5, 1971. Train 216 head in at Ironwood and then back out across the Montreal River and through Hurley, WI and head south. Train 153 back through Hurley, across the Montreal River into Ironwood and then head out and head west to Ashland, WI.

What railroads crossed here? The second came from the distance and passed just to the right of the dirt road.

No, not some where in SE Michigan. We would see the second railroad only in history books. But it was not some obscure logging road either. The dirt road is "Railroad St".
