Where Is It?
Re: Where Is It?
Those rails are pretty shiny. Looks like a busy line.

Re: Where Is It?
It is at the end of the active rails? (active line, not abandon). If yes, where about in the lower peninsula?Saturnalia wrote:Negative, flyguyJetlink wrote:Hows about Berry Junction?Saturnalia wrote:Hahahaha I posted a stumper for once. Keep on trying, no close guesses yet. Yes to Michigan, and yes in the Lower Peninsula.

Got it! Yes, indeed, the far northern end of the former D&M mainline (now LSRC) and the take over of North Eastern State Trail, just short of US-23 , just north of Alpena in the Alpena Public Schools district, Alpena Township, Alpena county. Alpena, MI 49707 is the mailing address.Saturnalia wrote:Yup, far Northern end of the D&M mainline today, located just short of US 23 north of Alpena.GreatLakesRailfan wrote:Alpena, end of track.

Per Maddog,

Further search thru Google shows the bridge over Butcher road, east of Brighton.
Per DaveO
It's now called State Park Road.

Clemens Sub over Clinton River but several of the more knowledgeable posters don't think that's correct (I don't either). His hints are it's a mainline in SE MI looking north (the hints may not be correct). You guys are pretty good at finding locations so I thought you'd like a good challenge .

Re: Where Is It?
Well I spent quite a bit of time looking for this one, but didn't find it yet. There is an odd mix of old stuff and not so old in the pictures. The light standards have a 1920s look although they could be replicas. There is a modern gate operator there on newer concrete. The building where the line ends looks quite old, but there is new security fencing around the place. The rails there seem to have been laid on top of existing pavement and are not sunk in anywhere except near the drive crossing.Maybe an industrial operation at one time, I kinda thought of General Electric, Detroit but their buildings look very different. Hmmnn..

Re: Where Is It?
The locomotive was built by Dick Warner back in the 70's. Dick and Chet Sperry each built one and they used to run them MU'ed. The throttle didn't modulate power as electronics do today. The motors were switched from series, series-parallel to parallel with a contractor. When you switch into parallel they would fly. Chet was the Chief Mechanical Engineer at Upjohn. I think Dick worked at Upjohn too but I don't recall.ConrailDetroit wrote:Yes. It is shown here between 9:00 and 10:00 minutes.

Re: Where Is It?
Looks like this is the entrance to the Addison Building parking lot on Charlotte St. near Woodward owned by Joel Landy. Recent Google Earth shows most of the track gone now but the cross bucks and lights are still up.
