Where Is It?
Re: Where Is It?
Not Hartford. One is an active line. The other saw a brief life as a mainline then was abandoned before most of us were born.

On the active line CCN, CSX, NS, GLC or LSRC?
Re: Where Is It?
With Kalamazoo being way warmer than SE Michigan you can scratch GLC, LSRC and NS. The second lines life as a mainline was 100+ years ago. It wasn't a dead end feeder and this segment connected at both ends to form part of an east-west route reaching beyond Michigan. It augmented it's owners mainline until double tracking in the early 1900's left it redundant. This segment was abandoned in the 1930's.railrod1949 wrote:AARR wrote:Hartford?PatAzo wrote:What railroads crossed here? You're ever so close. The active line hasn't seen passengers since the early 70's.~Z~ wrote:I was looking around dowagiac and Niles, but not seeing yet what it is. Just letting you know that not only railrod is looking.

Cassapolis about where the Michigan Airline crossed the GTW. Michigan Central used the Air Line for directional running between Niles and Jackson until the MC mailine was double tracked.AARR wrote:Cassopolis?PatAzo wrote:With Kalamazoo being way warmer than SE Michigan you can scratch GLC, LSRC and NS. Re: Where Is It?
Now for something a little different. Usually we're looking from the public right of way toward the railroad. Here we're looking from the railroad toward the public right of way. This might be easy if you've ventured out of Michigan.

Cassopolis on the CN's South Bend Sub. The second line was part of the old Michigan Central RR's Michigan Air Line. Final runs of the remaining passenger trains on the old GTW which were trains 158/159 the Maple Leaf ( which stop at the Cassopolis depot just north of the diamond with the Michigan Air Line), trains 164/165 the Mohawk(ran between Detroit and Chicago) and trains 155/156 the International. Trains 155/156/158 and 159 ran between Chicago and Port Huron actually trains 158/159 ran between Toronto, ON, Canada and Chicago, These trains all made its final run April 30, 1971. This is looking northeast from Maple Street, Cassopolis, Cass County.~Z~ wrote:I was looking around dowagiac and Niles, but not seeing yet what it is. Re: Where Is It?
Not Michigan City but the South Shore is in the picture along with two other rail roads. One the single track next to the retaining wall and the other who's train this was shot from.

Gary, IN Shot from a train on the former B&O RR to Garret, IN Willard, OH and Cumberland, MD. That's the Indiana Toll Road I-90 and the South Shore Line on the other side of the toll Road. Just east of the bridge over the Grand Calumet River. Final run of the Amtrak train, the Three Rivers between Chicago and Washington, DC was made on March 8, 2005.

Gary IN. It's a shot from the late Stobe the Hobo's ride from Chicago to Fostoria and Cumberland MD. There are shots at Garret, a glimpse of Deshler but not the park and a visit to the park in Fostoria.

Where be it? Between the two sets of power lines, there was another set of tracks.

Just south of Moline at 12th St. Very nice photo spot. Older women at the farm will stew about what you are doing and come write down your license plate number.~Z~ wrote:Where be it? Between the two sets of power lines, there was another set of tracks.

Yes, that's the former GR&I, later PRR, later PC,later Conrail, now Grand Elk, looking south along 12th Street toward Wayland. South of Moline. Final run of the remaining Pennsy RR passenger trains through Wayland and Moline, train 519 the Northern Arrow was on Friday, September 1st, 1961 from Fort Wayne, IN to Mackinaw City. MI and train 520 the Northern Arrow, was on Tuesday, Septemebr 5, 1961 from Mackinaw City to Fort Wayne. In Dorr Township on the west side and in Leighton Township on the east side of Grand Elk RR track, both in Allegan County. The ROW between the power lines was the interurban line that ran between Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo.
