Hopefully it's not too easy, but there is a hint in the photo if you can find it.
Looks like Pavilion
Indeed it is. There are two ways of figuring that out (other than being there so much that it’s instantly recognizable):

1) I posted a different photo that was taken a few moments after this one in which I was told to “cut back on the cartoon colors”.

2) The milepost on the left side of the photo reads 157.

the contents of the above post are my opinion and mine alone, and do not necessarily reflect the views of my employer.

Newaygo again? It'd be looking north. Hills are about right on the north side, and the south bank was an extensive lumber operation.
It's Newaygo standing about where Wisner's is.
The rest of the story is here! The location of the vintage shot is now where Wisner Rents Canoes, west 25 East Water Street, Newaygo, MI 49337,is located now, just south of the south bank of the Muskegon River and west of M-37 in Newaygo, Newaygo County. The shot above is looking north.

Now the rest of the story. Yes, it indeed Pavilion (actually MP 157 is located in Vicksburg on the CN South Bend Sub. Pavilion is located at MP160.1, in the Vicksburg Community Schools, Kalamazoo County.

Early competitors who came into the the same system in the early 1900's crossed near here. This track is gone but the right of way is visible. The other line remains in use.

Newagyo only ever had one railroad.

Baldwin, maybe? Not much to identify it without knowing about those buildings which I imagine are all gone now, and no terrain to cue us in

Not another Newaygo, that would be too easy. But it is the west side of the state. It was once used for directional running a long time ago.

Not Baldwin (wrong direction). Not Battle Creek.

I also was considering Battle Creek but what two railroads merged in the early 1900's?

Battle Creek?
Did the Lake Shore Michigan Southern reach Battle Creek?

The track line in the picture was used for directional running in the early 1900's until it's parent completed double tracking.

Three Rivers it is. About the area of 8th and 9th Streets. The Michigan Airline who's western half became part of the Michigan Central crossed the Lake Shore Michigan Southern's line to Grand Rapids.

Yes, it's indeed Three Rivers, looking west along the old ROW of the old Michigan Airline, ( later Michigan Central, later, later old NYC PC, later Penn Central, later Conrail) from 9th Street to 8th Street toward the junction with the old LSMS's line between Elkhart, IN and Grand Rapids, all in Three Rivers. Three Rivers Community Schools, St. Joseph County. The shot above is a half block south of the St. joseph River and its dam.
