Here's something that hasn't happened in Manistee for quite some time being two freighters in town at once. Friday Mike D. Shep said he would try to make it to Manistee around 3pm but I couldn't make it out at that time but went out after 5pm.
View from on top of the hill you can see to the right of Morton Salt the S.S. City of Milwaukee, to the right of the Milwaukee is the ALGORAIL unloading trap rock and limestone at the Seng's dock, and behind the ALGORAIL is the MAUMEE which unloaded coal at Tondu power plant. The boxcars in front of General Chemical can be seen behind the trees and to the right of the houses.
The MAUMEE had to wait a few minutes for the swing bridge to be turned.
While waiting for the swing bridge to turn, I met a very nice couple from Grand Rapids. He works at a place in GR that makes diesel fuel injectors for EMD/GE or something like that. Then either her or his nephew works for CSX out of Lansing as a track worker.
