Visiting Tehachapi California

Unread post by GP30M4216 »

I have the opportunity to go out to southern California in early March of this coming year (at least one way via Amtrak, of course!), and I'm looking at interesting railroading things to do. My homebase will be Fullerton, on the BNSF mainline and Pacific Surfliner route. I've already been to Cajon Pass to see the BNSF/SP/UP, and that was so awesome I may just have to do it again! However, this year I'm thinking I might go to Tehachapi instead, another famous and busy mountain railroad point which all of us in Michigan don't get to see every day. I've found a few websites with some railfan information, but has anyone ever been there before? Any specifically good photo locations? Good signal bridges or tressles or the like? I know there are tunnels and such, and I just wanted to see if anyone else had any input ot other things they think I should know.
