I was using the Zeeland Public Schools wifi on Monday night at my daughters band concert and RRfan.com was blocked due to "potential pornographic site". I thought that was an odd message but now I think I know why.

Interesting about this site being blocked. I have heard of some web filters that companies/schools use that will block many forums, and maybe this site got tossed on one of those lists, and was incorrected labeled as Pron.

As for Adblock plus, it is handy. I do ask that anyone using programs like adblock plus that block the advertisements on this site(no popups of course) to click to "disable on railroadfan.com" so that ads do show here. The ads plus donations(food/beer too) help to keep the site free. I do add any beer/food, paypal, or cash/check donation sent my way onto the spreadsheet showing expenses vs revenue.

I do as well, but imbedded ads like that slip through occasionally. ABP has been rock solid for pop ups though.

So the ads pay per view, not just if someone clicks on one? Does it affect your earnings at all if someone clicks on the ad, Zack?

Get a very small amount of money just for displaying the ads, but far greater if someone clicks on it. But don't just click on ads for no reason, as they are then seen as fraudulent clicks. If you are genuinely interested in some ad, by all means click.

FYI, the ads that the boardhost sites are injecting into the text of people's messages piss me off. Many words per post over there on michiganrailroads have those links, and adblock doesn't stop those. I tend to click while I read to help scroll and accidentally open some of them.

What ads on the Boardhost sites? I thought the adchoices crap was something in the browser, not the site, although I haven't seen any of it there for a long time. I'd think it was asblock, but I've been getting the dating ads here too...

Is there any way to get relevant ads, such as model railroading sites (hobby suppliers) or similar ads, or do you just get what the ad company puts up? It seems like it would be mutually beneficial if you had ads that were relevant to the sites' content being displayed...?
