A Culver's in coming to Fenton Michigan and now invading Columbus, "Firehouse Subs" a Florida Staple has opened locations in the Columbus area.. Just what Columbus needs another sub sandwich shop, and in a town with Quiznos, Subway, Jimmy John's, Charley's Grilled Subs, Jersey Mike's, Panera, WG Grinder's, Penn Station, Potbelly, Steak Escape, and several sub variants in Pizza shops. getting a little crowded in that area..

Oh yes and another Florida staple Publix is rumored to be coming to Ohio. For those of you don't know what Publix is, it is a Florida grocery chain that is slowly making it's way north.

I always look at how HOT the CHIC's are at each place.

Panera Bread = SUPER HOT CHIC'S

Culver's = Ugly Chic's

Im going to PANERA BREAD :!:

of course I would have already established that there was no Tilted Kilt or Hooters any where in the area.

Anyone ever have a Maid-Rite? It's a Des Moines-based chain in the heartland. Apparently, according to a friend in NW Iowa, what we call a sloppy Joe is generically called a Maid-Rite there, kinda like how some Southerners call all soft drinks "Coke".

Had a European Maid-Rite this afternoon in Moline,IL - a sloppy Joe with Swiss cheese, bacon, and honey mustard. Yummy!

Chick-fil-a (or however it's spelled) has been invading South Bend/Mishawaka, IN in recent years, as has Sonic. There was rumor of Sonic opening a restaurant at I-94 exit 27 near St. Joseph, MI where the gas station was torn down a couple of years ago, but there has yet to be any construction there.

I've heard from a friend (also a Quiznos employee) that they are in the process of shutting down many stores in the midwest.
Screw the trains, I come for the fighting.

I'd eat at Jimmy Johns more often if they weren't so frickin' expensive. Their subs are not worth $2 more than Subway or Blimpie subs.

Tim Horton's is finally opening a few stores on the west side of Michigan :) . There's one on the corner of 28th and Burlingame and one over near Alpine so far. Can't wait till they build one nearer to me!

Jimmy John's is awesome but I agree it's not worth more than Subway. Speaking of subs, I wish we had a Penn Station over here. Tried that for the first time in Rochester a few weeks ago. Yum!

I like Subway better than JJ"s because their sandwiches have more flavor.
Also, at Subway, they make it in front of you, and you choose your toppings.
At JJ's, they boast how fast they are, and, in the case of downtown St. Joseph, MI, it usually takes them two or three tries to get your order right. They should work more on order accuracy and less on order speed.

They make your sandwiches in front of you in every JJ that I've ever been in. Image

However, they charge extra for toppings that Blimpie and Subway include in the price of the sandwich. That irritates me and is probably the biggest reason why I rarely eat there.

For those that are interested there building a brand new Taco Bell next to the McDonald's and Hot & Now here in Saginaw on Michigan Ave. They tore down the old Hardee's building. This is next to Genesee Street Yard.

The China Cafe in South Haven lost its sign in the recent wind storm. This was an old kite-shaped sign, originally a Burger Chef sign. You can see a photo of it here:
