Photography Contest Proposal

Unread post by Saturnalia »

I'd like to propose a railroad photography contest, much like the old photo of the day/week/month/year contests.

Quick overview:
--It would be a monthly contest
--Two-week submission period
--One-week voting period
--then one week off
--one photo PER PHOTOGRAPHER
--Photo must have been taken in the last year (maybe 1 historical picture per month tossed in (1 per voting session, not per photographer))
--Photo could be online anywhere (flickr, rrpicturearchives, rrfan.com gallery, ect), but must be yours
--I'd start the threads

--New Theme for each month, for example:
-> Janurary--Trains in the Rain
-> February--Trains from Above...ect

At the end of the year there would be a vote to decide the best of the year.

Any thoughts? Just an idea :D

We effectively have/had this in the form of Picture of the Month in the photography board. Hasn't happened in a while though.

Why start something new, just work on the old one.

If he asked me, I'd do it (not going to have the time to do everyday, but weekly is fine)

Would anyone have an issue with me re-starting the old stuff? I'd keep playing catch-up until we get back to present time...

I would. But in the mean time, I'm giving some thought to the option of having a monthly contest and let people link photos from other sites besides here. I know the RRFan gallery isn't up to snuff with flickr and some other sites in terms of features and audience, so why force users to reupload here. Takes enough time to submit a photo to one site as it is.

Awww. I even setup the Pic of the year 2010 (put all the monthly winners together, never posted, just saved)....
I'll be waiting for it to restart :D
