Spam fighting

Fighting against spam I am.... had been getting a new spammer registering every few days..
I decided to get rid of that complicated looking visual confirmation box with random letters and numbers. Computer spam bots seem to get past that anyway.

I instead made a custom profile code you have to put in, and it's on the registration page. It's easier to do than the visual confirmation box, and since it's custom, spam bots shouldn't know how to get through it. Let me know if you get any PMs from bots or see any spam posts.

Sounds like a number of people got these emails...
Main reason I changed this setting earlier today was to combat the spambot's ability to register. I've also now turned off anyone's ability to send an email to a user from the board.... Most people communicate via PM's or IM's with each other, so this shouldn't affect much. This way, no more spam members can just send out massive emails to everyone on the board.

Zack,

Being an administrator on another forum, and the one who lets people in or rejects them, I feel your pain. Knowing their IP address helps, and addresses that lead me to African countries are highly suspect. One dude from Russia keeps trying, but I know his IP address by heart.

Keep a stiff upper lip.
