For those who like full length videos of trains, filming these trains handheld in the cold for 4-5 minutes for each train was a real physical sacrifice…so please be sure to enjoy
These trains were filmed during a Romulus outing yesterday as I was in the area before picking up family from Metro airport, decided to swing by downtown for a bit and I did NOT regret that decision.

I had barely missed CSX M215 flying north through Romulus (didn’t work TDSI in New Boston like I thought it would). However I knew I had a westbound coming on the NS. I was unsure as to what it was until it actually came by, it was NS 121, daily manifest/automotive traffic from the CSAO Sterling Yard in Sterling Heights to Kansas City. Leading the train was a solo AC44C6M, and whenever something is leading solo on the NS, you can always a expect the train to be a biggie.

The train had already been going by for about a minute and a half when, as I expected, the mid-train DPU passed, a lone NS ES44AC (timestamp 2:50). NS has a rule (that was implemented after the disaster that was East Palestine) that any trains over 10,000 feet long have to run with a DPU. 121 was clearly no exception as it was approximately 11,000 feet long out of Detroit.

Another headlight = Another train on the Wabash line. This time being CPKC 231. This was the biggest train of the night with someone saying it was topping out at around 14,000 feet long! Some MoW cars were on the train toward the end which was a neat bonus. A CP AC44CWM rebuild and UP ES44AH for power on this one.

Our last train of the night was CSX M568, the daily Rougemere Yard in Detroit-Doremus, NJ manifest/autorack train. Being a big horn buff, I was all giddy over the 1st generation hybrid K5HL horn on the lead unit. Two ES44DC’s for power on this. Note that there is a quick cut between clips, that was because I got a low battery warning on my phone and it interrupted the recording. There was MAYBE 5 cars missed between the two recordings, which were covered hoppers.
