CSX Switching Cargill Salt in St. Clair PH&D Branch

Unread post by AARR »

Another nice video by Mark's Station of CSX switching the Cargill Salt Plant in St. Clair, MI. The lead into the plant is as sharp of a curve as I have even seen.

I've read that the PH&D local is L307. Before the symbol changes the local was D713.

I have read several newspaper and magazine articles that say Cargill manufacturers about 70 tons a day of Kosher salt at this plant.
That does not seem to be enough quantity to justify bulk shipments in box cars but perhaps it is, or maybe there is something else they produce or receive like road salt from another plant and use St. Clair as a distribution center.
