Ep. 472: CSX Trains of Monroe, MI

May 20, 2016 MONROE, MI -- The City of Monroe is about as far south and east as one can get in Michigan, on the banks of the River Raisin and one of the first settlements in the state.

Today, three Class One railroads serve the town, all along their Toledo-to-Detroit mainlines. Easternmost is Canadian National, then two (now under single ownership) Norfolk Southern mains, followed by the CSX, on former Pere Marquette Rails.

It is the latter which we focus in on today. CSX's Toledo Terminal Sub cuts across the western edge of town, crossing the River Raisin via a very accessible truss bridge.

Spend a May afternoon along the line, which produced a respectable load of 9 trains over a span of approximately 5 hours.

One note - CSX from Toledo through Monroe does NOT go to Detroit. It goes north to Carleton, Romulus, then Plymouth.

Plymouth then Detroit and or Carleton then the Lincoln secondary to Detroit. So yes they do go Toledo to Detroit
