The three CITX SD70M-2's on CSX M322-02 for LSRC
Thanks to the heads up I received on M322-02 having three ex. FEC CITX SD70M-2's, I set out Tuesday evening to catch this very rare movement for the Saginaw Sub.

The horn sounds sick

I don't think any CSX SD70ACe has a normal sounding K5LLA. I haven't quite grasped the horn type, they sound like MAC's.AARR wrote:The horn sounds sick

Man if I was on the crew I think that horn would have an accident so I didn't have to lead with that god awful thing.

That is nothing more than a sick K5LLA with one or more bells fouled with exhaust, oil and debris.

I've cleaned my fair share of gunk out of some leslie S3-L's I know how crappy they can get, also had to make new diaphragms for them took awhile to figure out the correct material hardness to get them to sound right.SD80MAC wrote:That is nothing more than a sick K5LLA with one or more bells fouled with exhaust, oil and debris.

It seems like all CSX SD70ACe's have that sick sound. I have showered numerous videos of all the units, not one has sounded like the deep K5LLA''s found on the NS and BNSF and UP ones. I believe CSX uses first generation K5LLAs, but I remember them never sounding normal the first year they were out, catching 6 of them leading total in the first two years.SD80MAC wrote:That is nothing more than a sick K5LLA with one or more bells fouled with exhaust, oil and debris.

The SD70M-2s would be useful on grain trains. It seems like the CSX power has been running north of Flint lately.
