Re: On the Boat Line 1/27 & 1/30
Ogauge, we must have passed you or just missed you at some point. I was on my first visit to Delray in well over a year along with J32885 and MackinaMac - we weren't intending to stay long but did see 4 trains on the morning of 1/30/2016:
We found Y194 waiting on the Fort Street bridge for their signal, which they received when the Delray operator lined them up for the Boat Yard Line - with CSX 1303 and 2686, a tankcar, a lengthy cut of Coke Express hoppers, two covered hoppers and two more tanks. I assume the first tank and Coke cars are all DCRR interchange, and the last few general freight cars were heading for the 15th Street Transload at the EOT.
As Y194 was working through Delray, the NS Boat Yard Line local arrived at the home signal. This classic train was led by shiny NS 5176, with a short 4 car consist and classic red caboose on the tail end. We moved over to Harbough Street to see them enter the Garden Yard.
Any idea where the boxcars on LD07 were headed?

Closeups of this former N&W caboose. I wonder what the build date is on this guy? In the last photo, you can see Y194 in the distance on the main approaching the DCRR West Jefferson Connection near Green Street.

Back at Delray, we found this southbound CN manifest coming over the hill. They got the light thru Delray but then were held in the vicinity of Conrail Bridge. That's CSX Q151 on the left, he shortly headed south as well for the Lincoln Secondary with two big GE's for power.
One of the things I like about CN is that they continue to paint "Classic" 50' boxcars in boxcar red with their logo on the side. Occasionally, you can find one that is graffiti-free.

Don't ever stop railfanning this area please...I am just loving these. Detroit railroading is not dead..Gr8 shots keep em coming!

The boxcars are for Cummings-Moore Graphite, which is along the Old Main/Livernois Industrial on North Green. The caboose is used for the shove back toward Delray because they pull north out of the customers spur.Any idea where the boxcars on LD07 were headed?

I didn't realize the job that works up the Old Main was the same one that works the Boat Yard Line. Makes sense though as the Old Main is owned by NS. Thanks for the info!

Heck I remember 10 years ago NS would pull pretty big coal trains from under the Ambassador Bridge. I always wondered why the coal went there in the first place and where they were going with it.
