460: Another New Q335 Recordbreaker: 227 cars!

Unread post by Saturnalia »

A bit overdue, nothing has come close since. Back around "normalcy" with 100 car trains for the most part.

Ep. 460: CSX 227-car Train! Incredible Modern American Railroading!

Today's lengthy trains are a masterpiece of transportation efficiency, beat out only by water transportation in terms of efficiency.

By stringing together railcars into ever-longer cuts, North American railroads have amassed epic economies of scale. This train, with 227 railcars, takes just two crewmembers and two online locomotives to power over the road!

On October 10th, 2015, CSX successfully moved this behemoth freight train between Stanley Yard in Toledo Ohio to Wyoming Yard of Grand Rapids, Michigan. It is without a doubt, the longest train to ever operate into or out of Grand Rapids.

So enjoy this show of industrial might, on the rails of Western Michigan!
