LSRC Alpena 2015 Miniseries

Unread post by Saturnalia »

Way back in July I had my annual trip to Alpena with the grandparents, and keeping with tradition we did a lot of train chasing.

This year, instead of giving each train its own video, I've gone to a geographical format. In the 3 feature videos, we follow each train in location order, even though there are several different editions of each train that we chased that week.

In narrated fashion, we begin with train 327 inbound, then watch 325 switch Lafarge and the yard before culminating with Train 326 as July Pure Michigan Trains.

First up is a general introductory piece, with exposition for the line and this series!

Well done, Saturn. I enjoy your video's. Does LSRC have any customers in the Tawas area? EA Wood? Sargent's? Fence Posts loading?
PatC created a monster, 'cause nobody wants to see Don Simon no more they want AARR I'm chopped liver, well if you want AARR this is what I'll give ya, bad humor mixed with irrelevant info that'll make you roll your eyes quicker than a ~Z~ banhammer...

Train #325 Alpena Switcher

Lake State Railroad's train 325 is a weekday yard and customer switcher in the small city of Alpena in Northeastern Lower Michigan.

Handling all switching duties on the Huron Sub, this crew predominately works Lafarge and Specification Stone.

Over two days, we cover their movements as they work. At Lafarge, was watch them work into the massive plant over ancient trackage, with plenty of interesting industrial scenes.

Next, we watch them in the yard as they work to spot cuts for Specification Stone, a quarry located just north of the LSRC Alpena Yard.

Other occasional customers in Alpena include Georgia Pacific, and a stone transload, neither of which are included in this edition.

This video is the third in our 4-part LSRC Alpena 2015 miniseries. Check out these links below for the other videos!

I enjoy your video's. Thanks for sharing them with us.

I think the hard board plant that transloads their product you referred to as Georgia-Pacific is operated by Decorative Panel International aka Alpena Hardboard. At least that's what the website says.

Great video. The hardboard mill is operated by Decorative Panels, formerly Louisiana-Pacific, ex- ABTCO, earlier Abitibi.

Don't feel too bad. Louisiana-Pacific is itself a spin-off of Georgia-Pacific although long before Alpena Hardboard came into the family.
