Ep. 444: Michigan Shore Railroad Z627
The Lakeshore, MI, June 15, 2015 -- Michigan Shore Railroad recently modified their operating schedule to include a daylight turn run to sole interchange partner CSX 3 days per week.
Previously, the railroad's turn from Muskegon operated five nights a week, in darkness year-round. This new schedule is the first time freight has run south from Msuekgon to Holland in daylight regularly in more than three decades, with the "Cannonball" was always a nighttime operation.
We chase Z627 south from Muskegon, making film stops in Norton Shores, Grand Haven, West Olive, Harlem and finally at Holland, where the crew reverses the train off the CSX mainline and into Waverly Yard.
It should be noted, the Michigan Shore railroad begins in West Olive, where the CSX takes over for the remainder of the run to Holland. They keep this for the access to the Consumers Energy Campbell Generating facility, whose branch leaves the mainline just south of the property line. Hence, the final 3 shots are on CSX trackage.

Great video sequence, as always! What 3 days are they planning to run south for the Holland turn? It's nice to see some daylight action on a line long known for being nocturnal
