Day in Fostoria. 2-12-05

Unread post by Scooterb »

Has been awhile since I have been to Fostoria. So I am up at 5:00a.m. for my 2 hr trip to heaven. See the tail end of a van train as I get off the highway at Galatia. As I approach Fostoria I hear a BNSF led train comming down from Toledo and making the turn East. the trains can only do 10 MPH in the curves so I head to east Fostoria to grab a shot of him but first Q393 comes rolling by at 7:45a.m.

Image

7:47 Q396 BNSF 8918

Image

As you can see it is still fairly dark. I hear on the scanner an NS train is going east bound so I head up to Pelton and get this road railer. At 7:53
Image
Q396 gets around the corner and the NS has cleared the diamond so Q393 starts to head west so Its down to Columbus ave crossing for a repeat pic at 7:58
Image
X152 heads east by the depot at 8:04. led by UP 4205
Image
Back to Columbus Ave for Q276 at 8:10 led by CSX 8407

NS is ready to run some trains. So we have at 8:20
NS 262 led by NS 9523
Image
NS 146 follows at 8:22 led by NS 2869
Image
Those two trains are followed at 8:30 by E447
Image
Miss the symbol on this train he comes down from Walbridge and takes the northwest transfer to head west 8:55 UP 5125 leads this train.
Image
As you can see in the last pic the sun has come out so I had some glare on that shot.
NS L99 heads east at 9:10. I shoot this pic at Pelton.

Image

9:17 Q1?? an east bound stack train led by UP 9067
from Poplar street

Image

9:24 Q1?? a west bound stack led by CSX 7335
Image
9:48 Q3?? an eastbound mix led by CSX 7335
Head west of town and get NS 882 by the elevators at 10:15
Image
10:22 Q391 UP 4977 from Poplar street.
Image
Man that sun is a killer on some of these shots.
10:33 NS 218 looks good in this shot
Image
11:20 head north of town ans get Q391

Image
Head west of town and we get NS 307 at 11:33
Image
Back to the Amtrak station for T909 11:43

11:55 Q164 with UP 9042 leading

Image

Over to the Bone yard at 12:13 for NS 56K at the diamond.

Image

12:21 Q291 makes the turn to head up to Walbridge
Image
Next up is the train from Walbridge that turns into H795 at 12:30

Image

N925 CSX 26 goes by at 12:43
Q390 at 12:50 from Poplar street
Image
Across the road to the NS line at 1:00 for 15E

Image

I like those old SP units so heres another shot of that
Image
Back to the Amtrak station for Q 231 at 1:12

Image

E 492 screws me at 1:25 by blocking Q389 I grab this shot of the two
Image

Around the corner by the elevators yeilds these shots of NS 10E
Image
Image
1:48 NS 277
muff this shot
1:48 hear a BNSf led train comming up from the South so I head down and get a worthless pic of Q634. So I head back to Poplar street to see CSX X091 a power move goes by west at 1:59. Oh well missed that one.
NS 276 at 2:09
Image
A T615 or Q615 takes the South East transfer at 2:10

Image

X550 comes in from the west.
Image
throw in a switch failure and Fostoria was tied up for about 30 min.
Order some pizza from East of Chicago and miss H795 comming out of the yard. And N973.
NS L71 heads west
Image
Its starting to get late but I hear two trains from Walbridge heading down so I grab these last two shot North of town. Q242

Image

Q296
Image
As you can see the shadows are getting pretty bad so I call it a day and head home.
Over 50 trains in 10 hours isnt bad.
Hope all enjoy

Scott was looking at most of your fine pictures on rrpicturearchives and you sure do have take a lot of pictures. Wish I could see all them trains.

Only been to Rochelle railroad park and seen about five trains. Been through those Ohio areas and South Bend on the freeway and seen trains. Went through South Bend on the Amtrak also.

Here's the best picture I took with a Kodak throw away camera at Rochelle. A rail employee in Chicago is a CNW fan and has unpatched CNW 8575 and CNW 8646 teamed up to run between Global 3 in Rochelle and Global 2 in Chicago. http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=94887
