Best day of railfanning in a long time. Caught both the CSX Toledo Trains, 2 CSX yard jobs, NS switching and a westbound empty coal. The best part of all was that there was Conrail power, and on the coal train there was an SD70ACe! Also made some of my first crossing videos.
First off was a GP38-2 and a drone switching.
Video of them: http://www.dailymotion.com/Conrail_Jon/video/81910
Then an ex Conrail SD40-2 and an ex LMS 8-40CW came out of the yard with a 9 car Q326.

Next we headed out to Lake Odessa. Here we caught another Toledo train on its way to Wyoming yard. 2 SD40-2s and a Geep.

Then we had NS GP38-2 5526 switching Hugart yard. Lucky they had to come out that far, otherwise I wouldn't have gotten to get a pic.
And then we had something special, the SD70ACe on the coal train! (My mistake in the earliar post, it was loaded) Coming around the corner at Buchannan:

We headed to the yard to catch the 70ACe coming in, but in doing that we missed a departing eastbound. Oh well, I would've rather seen the ACe.
Coming into the yard:
Engineer gave me a short 2 honk salute
CSX 2696 was switching the west end when the ACe came in:
Then the coal train came to a stop. The sun was on my side that day:
All in all, hell of a great day of railfanning!

It's pleasing to look at (My opinion) but from what I've heard and been told by Matt, not the most pleasing to run. For some reason, EMD Didn't use an Isolated cab on these engines, so, to quote Matt "They are nosier than crap."railroadfan wrote:I'd assume you mean the ACE on the coal train? GR trains
Hey 4884BigBoy, did you happen to record any of the times you saw any of those trains? I'll be in Grand Rapids on Saturday morning and I'm just curious to know what I might be able to see. I'd love to catch an eastbound over the Thornapple River Bridge, but either way I'd just like to know what I can expect. Thanks!

Re: GR trains
Well, yard job was around 11:30, so was Q326. The CSX freight through Lake O was around 2:00, and the coal train and west yard job was around 4:00. Just keep that scanner on and good luck!GP30M4216 wrote:Hey 4884BigBoy, did you happen to record any of the times you saw any of those trains?
