O/S Brantford Jan 28/06 part 2

Unread post by Aleks »

After heading home for lunch after this mornings action and to do some stuff around the house, I headed back up in the late afternoon.
In talking to the guys at the hobby shop all I missed beside VIA 72 & 73 was CN 330.
In other words it was fairly dead for 3 hours.

When I got there CN 398 was most of the way through his set-off.

He departed at 15:35
CN 5260 - 5418
120 cars
I took lots of photo's for Matt in case he still needed some examples of a faded CN unit.

Matt if you check my Mile Post 23 gallery you'll find a couple more slightly different angles including a slightly faded shot of the 5418.
Here is 398 back on his train pumping air.

Next up is CN 394 who stopped to make a set-off and lift right behind 398.
Now it's not like I've never seen CSX power here in Brantford but in the past it's been in the consist but never leading on CN trains.
I have seen CSX power leading as well as the only power on NS 327/328 so to see this on 394 who by the way originates in BNSF's Cicero yard was to say the least a pleasant suprise.
CN is a model railroaders delight cause you can run just about anything on a CN train for power and somewhere it probably happened in real life.

15:47 to 16:55
CN 394
CSX 8418 - HLCX 6325
68 cars - 38 + 13 = 43 departing
Arriving at Brantford

16:00
CN 435 (Toronto to Windsor) goes by on the south while 394 is backing his set-off into the yard.
CN 2437 - CN 5528
106 cars

394 in the yard completing his set-off.

394 has to follow VIA #76 from Masseys as VIA 75 is coming up the South from Copetown.

As VIA 76 arrives I get a shot off a CSX unit beside varnish. That sure doesn't happen up here very often.

16:48 to 16:50
VIA #76
VIA 6410
6 coaches

Pushing the light here for an action shot of a fairly quick moving freight I got this one following right behind 394 after he departed.
17:06
CN 390
BNSF 7846 (green) - BNSF 8060
105 cars

So ends what has been a pretty colourfull day here on the CN.
The tally includes
1 NS in primer
1 NS in Conrail
1 NS in NS paint
1 WC
1 UP
1 RLCX
1 CSX
1 HLCX
1 BNSF
3 in BN green
14 CN including an IC repaint
plus a couple of VIA.

And to boot it was sunny most of the day. Got to love days like this!!!
