Manistee Storm - 7/26/05 - Train operations

Unread post by BB »

On Tuesday (7/26/05) while driving to work at 7am, seen CSX 2630 and 2794 sitting along side US 31. Not the the first time seeing the engines parked on the north side of the channel. Over at the marsh in Eastlake the cars brought in from Walhalla were tied down and stretched from Parkdale to Eastlake which had to be a mile long train. 4pm coming home there’s a whole cut of lime hoppers placed on the track that use to go to Grawn. Then there's still cars over by Eastlake. Down by the roundhouse I was surprised to see the slug set still there. 2630 and 2794 went over to pick up the cars in Eastlake. Watched them pull into the yard and counted somewhere around 66 cars and that's after they pulled off the first 30 or more lime hoppers earlier in the day.

Look at this face, these boxes were headed to Walhalla.

and coupled to the slug to pull the train to Walhalla. They left with a 35 all boxcar train.

Four loco's on the Manistee train, something I've never seen before.

i'm surprised you don't see 4 unit lashups more often... never really thought that you always just see two engines together. thanks for the report BB.

Nice catch, BB!
The slug set is now gone for good, but the two Geeps are still in Manistee. Was there for a few days during The Shorline Bicycle Tour this past week. I got some pictures that I will post later. The bike tour also took me past the Ludington Yard, where GP38-2 2517 and GP15-1 1558 are (or were on August 1) being stationed.

So, how come it is that the one week I'm up there, all the interesting stuff like GP15-1's and GP30 Road Slugs decide to go elsewhere and I just see solid lashups of GP38-2s? HMMMMM?? :) http://groups.msn.com/chessiechapter/baldwinsub.msnw
