Butler Connection

Unread post by Scooterb »

Took a trip to Butler Indiana today and took these shots of the new connector going in.
Looking north of 6. The new switch appears to be installed already

thanks for the update scott. since the NS traffic is heavy there, and with the additional traffic soon...can you recommend a good place near the diamond or just west of it to watch?

Thanks for the update. I wondered what has been going on with the connection.

First thing dont go to the diamond the nieghbors will call the police and you will be asked to leave. Scanners are not legal in Indiana unless you have a ham radio licence. My favorite place is west of the diamond west of 1, between 1 and Federal ave. You will be about 1/2 mile north of the Wabash Line. So if you hear a train from that direction you can normaly catch it. There is a parking lot just west of 1. there is a truck parking/staging area about 2 blocks west of there. Than a parking lot north of the tracks on Federal Ave.
Scanner freqs. are Chicago Line Toledo West 160.800
Wabash Line Huntington Disp. 161.250.
Detectors NS Wabash Line 102.4 north of Butler 118.4 south of Butler.
NS Chicago Line I believe is 360.1 west of Butler.
At this location you are about 10 miles north of the CSX line so if traffic dies you can head south for some variety. Following the Wabash line south to Saint Joe.
Traffic seems heavier in the mornings.

any more updates when this connection will be completed? Was down at Judd St in Grand Rapids talking with the locals there and were trying to figure out when most of the CP traffic will be pulled out.

I heard they had the road was shut down Monday the 11th and it will be closed for 2 weeks. By Friday night the track work was already done so I can imagine anytime now they will gradually start diverting trains that way.
