Fostoria Acknowlegment

Unread post by BL2-1843 »

Just happened to be at the right place at the right time a week ago today while in Fostoria Ohio doing a 30 hour non stop vigil of watching trains with my three sons for my upcoming 80th birthday. A reporter for the local Fostoria paper came around and spoke with us and wound up doing a story on our visit there. If this link works, this was the report with a photo of all of us.

Just clicked onto the link above myself to see if it was there to notice you have to click on to the photo to see the story that was printed. BL2-1843 sure is looking OLD now that he is approaching 80 as well as he should. One of my sons seems to think, for all of the questions that were asked and the time that was spend with us that there may be a story more than just was captioned under the photo, but could not find it. Meanwhile, prior to Fostoria we also did 36 hours straight in Marion. Totals for the four day trip, we saw 161 trains, 87 in Marion and 74 in Fostoria seeing 307 locomotives on both CSX & NS. First time at either place since 2019. Previous trips have produced many more higher totals than this, but one can expect this in the days of P.S.R. Perhaps my oldest son "Chessie Forever" will do a story on "Trip Reports" as he as he has done in the past.

That’s awesome. I’m glad that you were able to make that trip with your sons.

Very cool. I wonder if your sons tipped off the local news. People love those human interest stories.

Actually it was "Ellen" who is the main person who oversees the park. I was sitting in the car logging trains when I saw my boys talking with her so went over and joined the conversation to find out they had already told her how they happened to be there. This started the ball rolling.

Hi Bob. This is Kirk. I visited you last Sunday after Ellen called me. Did you get the newspapers from her yet? It was very nice meeting you and your wife. And thanks for the muffin.

I never received the newspapers and now concerned because of this. I have no idea how to contact Ellen, so if you talk to her, let here know this. Just saw this message on September 23rd or would have told you this much sooner. Will P.M. you as well..

307 locomotives in 4 days is impressive, maybe a yearly dose of engines for myself across both CSX and CN. Last month, I had asked about Fostoria as I had made a trip down there last year and only saw one NS train in the three hours I was there, sounds like you had much better luck. Did you all camp out at the locations?

In addition, happy birthday! Wishing you a great 80th.

Thanks for the birthday wish and yes I did, on the Ohio trip and later on the actual birthday on Oct. 3rd. Yes, we stayed awake in our vehicle all night on our first day in Marion before crashing at Marion hotel before going to Fostoria. Then, did the same thing at night for our first day in Fostoria before returning back to Michigan.

Have you ever done a trip like this to Berea or Vickers?

It has probably been 25 years since I have been to either Vickers, or Berea, but never an overnighter at either place. At my age now, either is now out of the question.
