Disused trackage at a factory in Ypsilanti
Disused trackage at a factory in Ypsilanti
So just northwest of the Willow Run Airport there's this wye that used to lead to a factory just west of Willow Run, and that factory (42.235368, -83.558107) has a bunch of tracks that have been paved over. There also seems to be a facility just north of Airport Drive that also had a spur or two going there. Anyone know the story behind what happened here?

The wye coming south out of NYC Willow Run Yard went to the Ford Motor Company B-24 bomber plant.
After the war General Motors purchased it and it was a GM, Hydra-Matic plant. Later on GM built the Willow Run Assembly Plant south of the transmission plant. The Covair was built there.
GM Closed the Willow Run Assembly plant long ago and around 2010 or so closed the transmission plant. The power house still had the boilers that were lit off by Henry ford. Had two steam engines driving air compressors too. Plant was sold and turned into the Mobility Center.
No need for rail any more so tracks removed.
