No. They own their own their own trucks and trailers.

Thank you. When Cherry Growers stopped shipping around 2009 or so there was speculation IS might resume rail service.

Rumor is G&W won't renew their contracts for the MQT or the MS in 2024, anyone else hear this?

3 years is an awful long horizon to have that made as a firm decision.

I’d imagine they would not renew contracts for the GRE and MMRR as well if they pulled out of MQT and MS

GRE and MMRR are owned and paid for. MQT and MS are leased from CSX.

Early for a firm decision but not to early to get negotiations started. The people working at these levels of management generally don't put their discussions out into public forums.

Who would even be a good potential new operator? Progressive Rail? Watco? New outfit? I doubt CSX would want those lines back...

(Just playing the "What If?" Game...)

Possibly Lake State. They've attempted to add other operations away from the Plymouth-Alpena/Gaylord line. Back when North Judson (IN) tried to kick the Chesapeake & Indiana out, Lake State won the bid to replace the CKIN. I seem to recall that possession/presence and railroad law had a lot to do with LSRC not actually taking over that operation.

Lake State also has the papermill line here in Port Huron (which will be losing one of its biggest customers this year) and one or two other operations, IIRC. They're also rumored to be taking over at least one additional yard limits (only) operation in the state (Michigan).

I'm sure there are other companies just as qualified as Lake State to take over those operations, but if G&W really lets them go, my bet would be that they'll be added to the Lake State fold.
