GLC Commuter Stock
What is the status of the small fleet of commuter cars GLC stored on the north edge of Cadillac?
CSX Q327 tonight had seven double decker passenger cars at the end of its consist (February 1). Same cars?
Word was they were headed for Nashville, TN.

Some are still parked at Yuma and the rest at Owosso last I knew. At least the ones that left are getting used. The commuter trains they were for never started up.

Re: GLC Commuter Stock
GLC recently sold off 10 of them to Nashville's Music City Star commuter service, which is what you saw on Q327. I would expect for them to sell more/all of them if more buyers can be found.

What’s the status of rebuild vs non rebuilt cars on GLC?

Weren't those cars owned by MDOT? I know MDOT paid a ton of money on storage fees for them.

Re: GLC Commuter Stock
Since no takers locally, (SRI got parlor cars) no CMU commuter train in Mt. Plessant or Traverse City trains or Wally they needed to unload them. Somebody else will have to tell us if they got rebuilt or un-rebuilt ones in Nashville? As to MDOT not only monthly rental but didn't Federated Rail (GLC) get paid so much per car for rebuild for the services that didn't materialize? I know SRI rented up to 4 per year for Polar Express and other special runs ( power car could only handle 4 max). While on the property vandalism also added some costs.

I’m hearing that one more of these passenger cars is buried near the end of tonight’s Q327. That’d be the eighth one spotted bound for Nashville.

Re: GLC Commuter Stock
SRI only used them because they are cheap to lease, nothing more. The passengers hate them seating wise and apparently they aren't very spacious.Super Chief wrote:Since no takers locally, (SRI got parlor cars) no CMU commuter train in Mt. They make TONS of sense for what SRI used them for. Put lots of butts in the seats to see Santa. In terms of “spaciousness” they are fine for commuter cars, but for a family of 4 buying the cheapest seats to see Santa.. they defiantly would suck. Not to mention the upper level seating is 1x1 for the most part. I would even say they were great for commuter cars since being re done. GLC/ their car leasing company did a great job restoring them. It’s a shame our government fell short on starting something to Detroit. In a couple years when Ford is operating in the MC they will want something like that, and it will make more sense.MQT1223 wrote: SRI only used them because they are cheap to lease, nothing more. I belong to SRI and I can tell you for a fact we used 5 coaches on our Christmas trains. I should know..I was a carhost on the Saturday morning runs.Super Chief wrote:Since no takers locally, (SRI got parlor cars) no CMU commuter train in Mt. I do agree with you on that. Never said it made no sense. Cheap seats helped the trains get the longest I've ever seen them.Ypsi wrote:They make TONS of sense for what SRI used them for.
