The SD40s were numbered for the former President's daughter's birthday and his own birthday or something like that.

Probably a unit thats available when others are in for their 92 day FRA inspection. For safetys sake 1 unit running LHF would not be safe with all the crossbucks up there. Now put a GP30 slug (CSX style) with a GP-35 you would have your 2 cabs and single prime mover. Of course they have various tonnage each day so 2 prime movers covers all scenarios.

They can (and have) run with 1 unit up there plenty of times. It's more comfortable for the crew to have two, and having a pair comes in handy if tonnage warrants.

The derailment has been cleaned up. Nothing remains except for a dirt spot.

It's my understanding the SD40's were numbered after employee birthdays
