DT&I Caboose #96 For Sale

It looks like the wonderfully restored DT&I caboose #96 needs a new home...

It doesn't appear private caboose ownership lasts very long.

Economics always seems to get in the way.

Any authentic history about this caboose? One source says it was built in '28, another
states it was constructed in 1925.

Evidently some of its original wood was utilized in making decorative pens
before it was restored? What's the story behind that?

It appears in this case that it was rather an unexpected move, not economics, that made the owner list it for sale.

Yes the build date is contradictory. Although, I think it was built in 1928.
Sister caboose #77 at the Henry Ford Museum was built in 1925.
Sister caboose #94 on display in Civic Center Park in Flat Rock was built in 1928? (date has since been painted over).

Apparently the caboose was in very rough shape when Mr. Yax purchased it. I would really like to know its full history before it was so lovingly restored by Mr. Yax.

Update: The caboose has been donated to the Michigan Transit Museum. I only hope it does not end up like the GTW caboose they own. (I hope it gets displayed by the depot).

OR Henry Ford Museum/ Railroad Roundhouse in Greenfield Village in Dearborn?

Thank You for following up with an "Update".

I was not familiar with the Michigan Transit Museum and did a brief Google search to learn a little more.

It seems like a good fit for the regal looking 96.

Here's to a smooth transition on its way to a new home.
