Iirc SEMPTA used to run 4-5 sets into town and 4-5 sets out of town. A couple systems that work like this are the west coast express in Vancouver and ACE over in California. It seems to work well and I think would work for PNT to DET. ARB to DET is different as commuters in theory want to go to ARB and DET. So you would need trains going both ways in the morning and evening, or at least one reverse commuter set on those lines.
