News coverage: Pere Marquette breakdown

Unread post by TSS »

Tuesday’s engine failure on the Pere Marquette, five miles short of the St. Joe station, required an engine from Q327 to pull the dead train to St. Joe. From there, buses rescued the passengers.

What’s interesting is that the Herald Palladium picked up the story, and from there, the Amtrak in the Heartland blog.

They even found and listened to the audio on the St. Joe Rail/Marine Broadcastify feed.

We all know that in the digital age, local newspapers are down to bare bones staff, so I find it remarkable they discovered this story, late on a Tuesday night. Is there a railfan in the newsroom? Did a disgruntled passenger call it in? It would be fascinating to know how it happened.
