Detroit River Tunnel Trackwork

Unread post by ConrailDetroit »

Wednesday 10/10, There was a piece of track equipment at the mouth of tunnel on the track that is not used (only inspected). Also, some work being done between Bagley St and Vernor, all while the overpass on Bagley is under construction.

Are those intentional "derails" in the third photo? Or leftover switches from an earlier era?

Those are intentional. They are pretty much standard on any border crossing. US Customs not only has them at Port Huron, but also at the Soo.

Any formal documentation on the details of what's going on, here? Are they simply replacing track/major repairs?

The rail border tunnels are below adjacent track. Derails protect against runaways.
