Passenger cars that GTW hauled to Durand
Anyone know the car numbers/names?
I'm guessing the flat end/mid-train observation Pennsylvania car is the Louis Sockalexis.
How about the (apparently) Northern Pacific dome?
Are these to become part of the Lake States fleet?
Or perhaps storage in the Saginaw roundhouse?

Re: Passenger cars that GTW hauled to Durand
If you only caught them in Durand they could be going to SRI? Did you catch them on any trains going in either direction? SRI supposedly got one of the circus train cars also, but can't confirm that its arrived on property.

I was going on the info based on the photo by GTWtracker @ Fenton in the train location subforum.Super Chief wrote:If you only caught them in Durand they could be going to SRI? But you are right, they could have headed up to SRI. But neither are from the circus train.

Anybody have the identity of the NP dome? Lake State is going to have a neat Santa train this year if these run on it.

Per Fbook "GTW Tracker," these are heading to Saginaw for LSRC! This would have been awesome to catch! Nice "Blue" GTW with those "White" Plates!!!!" Wow, nothing here on the CN train with the Northern Pacific Dome and Pennsylvania coach? It was led by GTW 5847!

Cars are the Stampede Pass and the former 1949 Pennsylvania Railroad 8423 observation car “Frank Thomson”

Thank you to CN for providing great service to switch Frank Thomson to its summer home at Lake State Railway yesterday!

Too bad that when the shop removed the class lights, they did not see fit to touch up the paint. The "white plates" referred to earlier look out of place and detract from the loco's appearance.
Re: Passenger cars that GTW hauled to Durand
A search of online photos reveals that 5847 kept its class lights at least until 1991. By 1998 they were gone. Initially this took the form of the "rings," or gasket or whatever it's called, remaining and whatever material replaced the bulb was painted red. By 2003 the plates were installed, and initially nicely painted red. By 2005 the red paint was already flaking off.CR900945 wrote:Too bad that when the shop removed the class lights, they did not see fit to touch up the paint. OK guys! I saw this engine in 1992 with "Classification Lights!!!!" In 2001 I saw it in a consist already with "White Plates!" The white was later painted over red! Then by 2008 the newer red paint was "Flaking" off!!!! I saw the engine in Illinois in 2010 and it was back to "White Plates!!!!" Later there were "Angry Eyes" (which I didn't see in person)! They finally returned all "White" again!!!! I love it because it is very "Different" looking!!!! Look at the "Sequence" of photos below of its life on "The Good Track Road!™"

Re: Passenger cars that GTW hauled to Durand
OK, folks! Here we are back to referring GTW 5847 and those "White Plates!!!!" Read back on this thread for more info on GTW 5847! OK, this engine has been running lately on a local from Battle Creek and west (Nov./Dec. 2023)! I did not catch it recently! However, those nice "White Plates" were once again painted over red again!!!! I did not want them painted over! Here's a picture in Iron Junction, MI, June 16, 2021 (photo Jeffery Streiff):

OK, here is a scan of the time I captured GTW 5847! GTW 5847 heads south from the Dunn Paper® facility in Port Huron, MI, April 8, 2018. It is seen crossing the Bascule Bridge over the Black River. This spur has since been leased to Lake State Railway® and both paper companies (Dunn/Domtar) have closed! Not much business on this spur now (Canon® 35mm S.L.R., E-6 slide film):
