JAIL Operations (2018)

Unread post by DelayInBlock »

Earlier this month, I had the opportunity to cover the JAIL over Mother's Day Weekend... The weather was horrid, but the fact they were running in the daylight was reason enough to grab the camera and head out to Jackson Yard.

I was happy to see 1751 in charge of train JL1 on the heavy northbound loaded coil train, which totaled fifty-one cars in length, bound for RSDC in Holt, Michigan. At 7,280 tons, this train was a work-out for the two 1950s-vintage locomotives. With 1,750HP each, the GP9s would have just enough power to get the train over the road.

At the throttle of 1751 was none other than Mark Dobronski, President of the Adrian & Blissfield Railroad, who was taking the train over the road to ensure this hot train of steel coils arrived to the customer on time. Factoring in wet the rail conditions, the mild gradients of the Lansing Secondary, and the heavy tonnage of the loaded coil cars, Dobronski paid careful attention as he took the train north.

DIB, Another great video. I am impressed that a pair of GP9's can pull 51 loaded cars. I'm surprised JAIL didn't use the 3rd engine.
PatC created a monster, 'cause nobody wants to see Don Simon no more they want AARR I'm chopped liver, well if you want AARR this is what I'll give ya, bad humor mixed with irrelevant info that'll make you roll your eyes quicker than a ~Z~ banhammer...

That's the difference between an experienced locomotive engineer and a novice. An experienced engineer knows how to keep a heavy train rolling along, whereas a novice would have the locomotives choking and puking at the first hill. And, a heavy train will quickly separate the men from the boys.

Ditto. But I guess the 1760 was out of service for heavy repairs. It was quite impressive to see the two Geeps working hard!
