So how many does this leave with Alco trucks? Also how many still have the bells mounted in the short hood? I always thought that was a neat spotting feature with a local flavor.

This leaves 385, 389, 390, 392, and 393 in service. They all have Alco trucks and bells mounted in the short hood.

FWIW W&LE has 10 or so GP35’s with ALCo trucks (and some with high hoods) and are rebuilding them to -3 standards

Thanks for the update on the Alco trucks and bells to both of you.

 I'm really sad to hear that my old girls are nearing the end.

Built in 1966, they have lived a good life.

The bell of 388 (Alma milk truck wreck along with 393) is polished and is mounted
on a stand in my office in Florida.

Endeavor to persevere.

Well what a coincidence TSB , I'm in Florida now and have the bell and frame that held it off 466 the RS2. I told Tom Springsdorf that I saved it when they cut that old girl up in White Piegon. He only knew it as a black bell but low and behold she's solid brass. Was attached to the radiator circular shroud on top of the locomotive. She was a puller but as all Alcos can be tempermental.

Fortunately, it looks like the others will be around for a while yet!

They are nearly all brass and beautiful. We had to paint them to keep
the unsavory element among rail fans from stealing them. Bless their hearts.

And while it's great to see 10-14 car trains in Traverse City again, some of that are those former TSBY covered hoppers and TSBY former AA double door box cars coming up here to be scrapped.

Also, I have an original 1984 TSBY Rule book and a timetable document complete with the original Vassar area cluster, and the newly acquired former AA/C&O/PRR lines. All the siding, speeds, etc. Got it from the late railroad agent Chuck (last name escapes me). And a 1996 edition from Mr. TSB himself.

All back in the day of Stan Bogen, Ivan Zosso (spelling), Ray Robinson, and the other character that went on to engineer on the Grand Traverse Dinner Train/Northern Transportation.

Chuck Stevens, "Bud" Zosso

Chuck was retired from being the top cop on a big Navy ship, then retired
from the Michigan Northern and finally also retired from The TSB.

Ah yes, Stevens, met him in 1987 and kept in contact until he retired. Same for Stan Bogen (also former MN, then TSBY). And Bud, who I think retired several years before Stan. Don't know if Ray stayed on with GLC or not....

I think I got this from the AARRT&HA that the GP35's were built between 3/64 and 6/64

In my travels around the country I've run into a lot of retired MN guys. Ran into Alex Huff at the Pizza Ranch in Ft. Pierre SD, a retired engineer from Carp Lake south of Mackinaw City and another one from Dowagiac Mi. The Carp Lake guy was in the cab of a 35 on the fall color trips to and from Mancelona 2 years ago, and the Dowagiac guy I met at the depot in Elkhart Indiana. I think his name was Robert Robinson? Today I'm running a Seaboard GP-30 on the Largo Central RR. Yeah its only 7-1/2 in. Guage but the kids love it.
