CSX Chicago To Detroit via GR

Unread post by Wabash1070 »

I have 2 questions about this
1: Is it possible?
2: Is it needed with the new Intermodals from Chicago to Detroit via GR seems to be working fairly well?

One or two of the posts in the "Not so good news...." thread indicated a new intermodal train is being seriously considered.

Q195/196 did just this a few years back. Ran from 59th St in Chicago to Detroit with a crew change in GR. With the changes coming to North Baltimore and these stacks on the GR manifests if this business grows or gets too much for these manifests to handle I could easily see a second train running just this internodal traffic to Detroit via GR.

As has been mentioned here, this topic has been pretty well flushed out in the aforementioned thread about North Baltimore

I’m surprised they haven’t established something yet for the amount of non-intermodal traffic being picked-up and set-off in Plymouth. There’s a lot of loose mixed freight being set off and picked-up in Plymouth that gets forwarded to D717 to Detroit or on D737 to Flint. Heck, east of Plymouth towards Middle Belt has frequently been stuffed with GR-destined cars resulting in D717 frequently bringing in road power for occasional overnight extras from Plymouth to GR. I haven’t seen Plymouth’s yards with this many cars since the late 90s, let alone the oddity of intermodal cars in North Yard and S385s staged in East Yard after being forwarded from Detroit with a local crew. With Q151/150 working Plymouth and currently handling a lot of the Oak Yard (CP Vancouver) cars, something’s bound to change soon and warrant for it from my recent observations.

Yeah, so you replied to a person who was obviously dripping and saturated with sarcasm. Goodness, he was right. More than a few dim bulbs, here.

If they put fat wheels on the train, it could just take I-94.
