150 years ago on the old Jackson, Lansing and Saginaw RR

Unread post by Atkinson_Railroad »

The year 2017 highlights some railroad history along a stretch of long gone Jackson, Lansing and Saginaw Railroad right-of-way this fall.

In reviewing some old notes I’m deleting off my computer related to the You Tube video I spent over a year researching, it just occurred to me this Fall will
celebrate a couple of big birthday numbers for St. Charles, and Saginaw, Michigan relating to one of the first railroads through the middle of the lower peninsula.

The Carnegie era riveted steel girder bridge now serving the rail trail in Saint Charles turned 90-years-old this year.
(The cut stone the bridge rests on today was erected for an earlier "swing style" bridge.)

And the old line itself as it passed through the area en route to Saginaw would be 150-years-old this coming October and November.

As engine, engine number 9… speeding down the railroad line evokes fond folklore.

The number 7 seems to fit well too… for the railroader’s in all of us.

Happy Birthday ole Railroad Route!
