Ann Arbor Passenger Cars

Unread post by NS3322 »

Are there any passenger cars parked at the old Art Train headquarters/New Center?

Not that I know of, a few weeks ago they had two Amtrak Dash-8s with some ballast cars there, but they have left by now. That's my last sighting, and only sighting except for a ballast maintainer. I think the passenger cars were taken out a few years ago.

In this video by Michigan Central Lines, the passenger cars are at around the 30 second mark (in the background).

There's no "active" service at the old Artrain track. However the space is occasionally rented out to private cars, when that happens is really only known by Amtrak, the New Center & the Private car people.

Amtrak will occasionally park an MoW train on the middle track there.

Those are private cars, the art ones were silver I think. I never saw them except for these pictures http://www.railfanguides.us/mi/annarbor/m7512.JPG

Wow, I think I remember seeing that one sometime in the mid-2000's.

This is something worth photographing!!!! Do you know when they are "Dumping" ballast on the "Michigan Line?" What paint scheme are these two "Classic" locos in? :?:
How much longer will they stay here working? :?:

I remember seeing them a couple weeks ago, if I remember right, it looked just like this one, except there were only 4 cars and both P32's were in Phase V paint: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nPQNKziWoZI

I presume it's the same train (or at least the same Dash-8s) I saw on the 1st. Here's one of the pictures I took.

I believe they're actively working the line, so it would depend on when you go by.

:?: OK, I may go to AA next weekend, 7-22 or 7-23! Will this train still be "Dumping" Ballast then? Do they work weekends? Does anyone have more info about this train?

I'm not surprised the private cars are gone. Seems like there were one or two news stories about them being hit by graffiti vandels

Those were the Mid America Cars, not the Artrain. Which were being chartered by some company in Ann Arbor, for the few days while in town they overnighted on the old Artrain spur. During one of these overnights they were hit by graffiti, which made the news.

The former Artrain siding is now a rent-able parking place for private cars. So you will see cars there on occasion, but there is nothing stored there & nothing scheduled there regularly.
