Side Dump Ballast Cars Moving East by Semi

Unread post by GreatLakesRailfan »

Every so often I've been seeing the occasional side Dump Ballast car loaded on a truck, crossing the (Blue Water) Bridge into Canada, or heading up I-94 towards the Bridge. All of the cars I've seen lately have been painted black, and none appear to have been in service before, although that's not always easy to see at a distance, especially at highway speed.

The last car I saw, I managed to get reporting marks (ATDX) and car number (122310). Would anyone happen to know where these cars are going, and why they're crossing the border by highway, instead of rail?

Thanks.

The destination railroad is isolated from the Canadian rail network.

Maybe they do not meet interchange criteria.

That's what I suspected. Any idea which railroad is receiving them? I've been seeing these shipments for quite some time now.
