Marcellus Siding/South Bend Sub.

Unread post by GTW »

Marellus siding is being upgraded for PTC. Today signal dept. people were working at E. Marcellus installing new LED signals looks like W. Marcellus will get the same starting Monday. Schoolcraft will get some changes also. Understand auto-derail on both sides of the diamond will be new and new Westbound signals also, time will tell. Mt. Clemens Sub. is the hot item for now. New signals might not get turned on till the fall here.

I never could understand why GTW (at that time), singled the main between Schoolcraft and Penn. It bit them in the ass in the 1990's. Right now it probably is just fine, but if we see another traffic up-swing, it will become the bottleneck it was again. The Marcellus siding? It was a long-running joke on the line as the "Penalty-Box". In other words, a text book example on how to cripple an otherwise smooth running double-track speedway.

The other day Marcellus siding had a westbound windmill train take up the whole siding. Enroute from Quebec to Texas. Now with NRE closing their Montreal location lots of westbounds are taking their ex-CP,SP and whatever else is up their to their other locations in Illinois. GTW counted 9 fuel tanks on one westbound last week.
