Remaining Conrail Locos In Michigan

Unread post by cbtrower »

Are there any conrail locos left on NS and CSX, im pretty sure their all gone but just asking. If not, is there any on a shortline in Ohio or, mainly, Michigan? I would love to see one, even though im pretty sure almost all are gone :(
Thanks,
Chris

Both NS and CSX have retired or repainted all of their former Conrail fleets.

At least one of the GP9s on Adrain & Blissfiled and the Jackson & Lansing was owned by Conrail at one point. All of Great Lakes Central's GP38-2s were built as Penn Central units that went to Conrail. Not entirely sure but some of Marquette's GP38s may have been CR units at some point, too. That's all I can think of off the top of my head.

Don't forget GP-38's on Ann Arbor which come into Michigan. Ones with 7700 and 7800 number series are ex-Conrail.

7771 and 7791 are both long gone. 7802 is re painted into orange and remembered to 3878, but it stays in Toledo.

That makes me wonder what exists in the museum fleet in CR paint. Somebody somewhere must have one still in big blue dip.

But yeah your best chance to see a CR painted unit is to catch the CR heritage unit on NS.

There are also various small railroads that have blue units still like this:

Who owns that piece of rolling FRA violations?

We railfans called those locomotives EX Conrail because they are repainted into CSX or NS. Like I saw an EX conrail SD60I in Vickers. On the way down there we passed a conrail caboose in New Boston very rusty.

The Heartwell Railroad in Georgia is practically a rolling museum. They run an untouched C&NW GP9, an untouched EJ&E SD38 (non Dash 2 unit) and an untouched Conrail GP38 (again non Dash 2). They also have a Rio Grande GP35 that's untouched in the small "Flying Grande" paint and a Bessemer and Lake Erie SD7 that's untouched as well. They also have a pair of untouched Chessie System High Nose GP9's, although I think one might have the Chessie Cat patched out. Truly a place where the foam can drown most.
