Spur That Used To Be In Romulus

Unread post by cbtrower »

I looked at a picture online, and saw a spur to the right of the C&O signals? http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPi ... id=2469543 Here it is in 1983, bottom right, doesn't look in the best of shape, but it had to be used one day. Here it is in 1999 with no spur?http://www.railpictures.net/photo/43611/ Also, you can go to Romulus today and still see the ties by the CSX tracks that used to host the spur? Any answers are appreciated!

I think that's the old interchange track between PM/C&O and Wabash/N&W. There was also a spur or siding north of the diamonds that served a fast food warehouse (Burger King, I think) where boxcars of frozen french fries were offloaded..

Old topo maps show an interchange track there. Follow that curve on Google Earth and it makes sense.

The track had two reasons, when passengers ran the PM used the romulus cut off to save time to Union Depot. and also for reroutes due to derailments north of ROmulus. Then C&O stopped using the short cut.. after that it was used to access the team track, most use of the team track was for shipments of beer for West Side Beverage to unload.. The tower Ops were to keep a eye on the beer cars when spotted.. also their was a spot to the east for coal shipments to the coal yard.
