West Detroit Branch Trackwork

Unread post by ConrailDetroit »

As previously discussed, CSX has completed tie replacement on the twice a week used West Detroit Branch. Track gangs are working to fix the 143 rail defects on the jointed-rail branch requiring a Hi Rail to run ahead of the local to ensure no derail hazards. The crossing at Tireman is also in the process of replacement.

Would you just say this is basic maintenance for a line like this to keep it up to very basic standards, or something more (i.e. upgrading it to make it attractive to potential customers)?

Looks like basic maintenance to me.

The CSX 2686 was at Joy Rd today at 2.45pm with 2 Hoppers. While it could have been the local working being Friday, hoppers are an unusal sight and usually arent working that late.

Excuse this, just a shot in the dark, do you guys think there is a possibility they want to do more at the corner of McGraw and Livernois? Considering that Coca-Cola is on that line and no one else south, and they have rail down for a bit further south than Coca-Cola, maybe they want more...

Recently, in that big empty lot, for about the last 4-6 months, there has been many intermodal container trailers parked. Maybe they want to add another container yard?

I can dream, right... I love having rail spurs in a city with active traffic :)

Hoppers go to Park Metallurgical on Vancouver Street.
