Re: QLine
How are they powered? I don't see Catenary wires or 3rd rail.
Re: QLine
According to a recent article I read, they will be powered by a combo of battery and overhead wire. The train charges while it's on the wire, and then runs on battery the rest of the time. Supposed to be 60% or so battery powered.

There's that and then for today, hidden in the back behind the frame of the photo, there was Kenworth with a 13 speed roadranger pushing it. Driver had to be really smooth floating the gears.Ypsi wrote:According to a recent article I read, they will be powered by a combo of battery and overhead wire. Re: QLine
Lemme see. The people mover was going to save Detroit. The casinos were going to save Detroit. Compuware was going to save Detroit. The Fox theatre was going to save Detroit. Comerica/Taxpayer Park was going to save Detroit. Well, surely this 180 million dollar streetcar to nowhere will save Detroit.

Re: QLine
The People Mover was originally part of a mass transit system that involved a subway under Woodward to Pontiac (that would've been a sight to see). Local leaders could not come to an agreement on how to use the money, and the $600 million commitment by President Ford was withdrawn under the Reagan administration. The People Mover was the only project completed with this transit money. Up until the QLine was constructed, the People Mover was a sad reminder of "what could've been."hoborich wrote:Lemme see. Re: QLine
The latest in a long line of Detroit Fiascos. All of that money for a city with more vacant land than the area of Boston or San Francisco. I just don't get it. Haven't been in the city of Detroit since some time around 2003 and have no desire to return. Just my $.02!

If you haven't been there in nearly 14 years, how do you know what the current condition is?Stinger4me wrote:The latest in a long line of Detroit Fiascos. J-T is right.
Detroit is improving but has a long ways to go. At least it's not going backwards now. There's no single solution. It will take many contributions to improve. Vacant houses are being demolished. The current administration is addressing crime and corruption. Vibrant cities have mass transportation and the QLine and People Mover are steps in the right direction although by themselves they seem ineffective at this time. It'll take vision and effective leadership to bring it together. Personally, I wish CN's Holly Sub from Pontiac to downtown Detroit could have been more utilized from transportation.
However, another important factor is Detroit has to become a city where people feel safe raising families before it can regain it past prominence.

Re: QLine
Look at Portland OR to see how streetcar and light rail spurs development. Best of all the density is centralized on the public transit lines which helps create livable, walkable urban areas. I'm excited to see what happens with this, they just need to keep the momentum going.

Gee if you have not been to Detroit in 14 years stinger4me that is your loss. Real nice baseball, football stadiums in the city, Business is booming. Beautiful riverfront. Nice peoplemover system and now a new trolley. Don't "dis" the place if you have not been there and just relay on the media but with your attitude please don't come here!

Although, those who will benefit most from the Q Line (and most other new development) are newly relocated people of some amount of wealth and privilege not from Detroit. The city is not coming back evenly or fairly to all residents of the city. Especially true of long time tax paying residents. If the Woodward Q Line went all the way to 8 Mile or Royal Oak as originally planned, it would be a fairer improvement. Also, if the Q Line was on Gratiot or Grand River and didnt just serve the area of the city with the most wealth.
