1223 Ice Cream Social Thursday

The Ice Cream Social to benefit the Pere Marquette 1223 is this Thursday in Grand Haven. I was gonna head out there and hope others are interested.

Sounds like there will be a whistle on air at this years' event. A replica was purchased to put on the locomotive when its not being used.

In short, Thursday, August 18, with cab tours starting at 4:00pm, ice cream provided for free from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, or until supplies run out.

1223 is displayed along North Harbor Drive, between First and Second Streets.

I believe that with the passing of Marty Strang earlier this year, there is only one member of the original "Pere Marquette 1223 Preservation Committee" still around. Sadly, I can't place his name at the moment.

This was the core group of six or seven guys who successfully made the case for bringing 1223 to Grand Haven, and arranging for its cosmetic restoration.

Since we'll be spending the week at the lake shore we might try to stop by for a tour. Thanks for posting. I've missed this several years in a row now.
