WYOMING YARD CHANGES

Unread post by dave989 »

The engine house at Wyoming Yard is closed. Refueling is now being done at
Barr yd. in Chicago or other terminals. Sometimes there is hardly any power
in Wyoming yards due to units being sent out for refueling. On Mothers day
I observed a light engine move from Chicago with NS 9766 leading 4 CSX Geeps.
Most times power is ferried in on Q326 and Q327. I live about a block from the
main in Grandville. Q326 arrives from Chicago around 9 a.m. and Q327 has been
departing at night after Amtrak comes in From Chicago.

All the old freight cars and caboose were sent to storage on the CIND in southern Indiana. That is significant because CSX is now paying to move and store cars on a another railroad instead of keeping them where they were for free in a time of reducing costs. I think there may be a lease or sale of CSX Michigan operations outside of Detroit area soon.

Power is now fueled in Holland and Lansing. The carmen are now changing the brake shoes on the engines. The storage cars that left were sold to David Joeseph 2 years ago and have finally left after CSX and DJJX agreed on a price. There are still many, many cars left in Wyoming.

Today May 21 Q327 left this morning around 08:30. Q326 arrived
at 14:30 this afternoon with 3 units, dash 8, gp-38-2 2639 and an sd50.
Not much power in the yard today.

Son of a....I was heading west over to the Holland area around that time and had my camera with me just in case. I even took Chicago Drive all the way from Jenison to Holland. I guess I should have turned on my scanner.
